From Seeds to Success: Empowering Your Non-Negotiable Wellness
We often hear about achieving success in various aspects of life, whether it's in our careers, relationships, or personal goals. But what about our wellness?
Just like gardens and children, our wellness requires consistent care and attention to flourish.
It's not about quick fixes or fleeting trends; it's about cultivating "non-negotiable" habits that form the foundation for a healthy and fulfilling mastery of life.
The Power of Non-Negotiable Habits
Think of your daily habits as seeds. The ones you consistently nurture—your non-negotiables—are the ones that grow into the life you desire. As James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, states, "Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement" (Clear, 2018). These non-negotiable habits, consistently practiced, compound over time, leading to significant improvements in your overall well-being.
These habits aren't a one-size-fits-all approach. As I like to say, "Healthy is an outfit that looks different on everybody." It's about identifying what works for you and making it a priority, no matter what. For me, it's nurtutring The Wellness Vortex's 20 non-negotiable habits in mindset, nutrition, and fitness you nurture to the mastery. I believe that if you want it, you can generate it (one out of 10 Life Principles), and that includes the motivation and discipline to stick to your non-negotiables.
Cultivating Your Wellness Garden
To cultivate your wellness garden, consider these steps:
Identify Your Seeds: Determine the essential habits that contribute to your well-being. This could include exercise and movement, healthy eating, mindfulness, quality sleep, or spending time in nature or any varitation of 20 non-negotiables. πCheck out your self-care score here.
Make Them Non-Negotiable: Commit to these habits as a fundamental part of your day, like watering your garden. As Emily Field, RD, emphasizes, incorporating habits like daily movement and prioritizing protein intake are "simple, sustainable, and scientifically proven" ways to enhance well-being (Field, n.d.).
Nurture Consistently: Just as a garden requires regular care, your wellness habits need consistent attention. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines self-care as the "ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease, maintain health, and cope with illness and disability" (World Health Organization, n.d.). This ongoing effort ensures that your seeds grow into strong, healthy plants.
Enjoy the Blooming: As you consistently invest in your wellness garden, you'll begin to see the fruits of your labor. You'll experience increased energy, improved mood, and a greater sense of overall well-being.
Overcoming Obstacles
Remember that cultivating a garden, or your wellness, isn't always easy. You'll encounter weeds (challenges) and pests (setbacks). Resistance is normal, and it often shows up around the 4-week mark. That's why having a supportive community is crucial. As I've learned, asking for help (newsletter link) is not a sign of weakness but an act of courage.
