Tired of Just Managing Time? This Is Your Next Step

mindset & mindfulness Sep 16, 2025

As we move through September, a time when new routines begin and holidays loom on the horizon, many of us start to think about goal-setting. But instead of seeing this as a period of pressure, I believe September is the best time to proactively set ourselves up for success.

This weekend, as I prepared to support a beautiful event for children with special needs, I found myself reflecting on the common challenges we all face with motivation, goals, and time. I want to share three principles that can help us navigate this season—and any other unpredicted moment in life—with energy and intention.

Principle #1: Generate, Don't Wait

How many times have you said, "I'll do it when I feel like it"? The truth is, waiting for motivation is often a waste of time. As Brendon Burchard says, we don't wait for energy, we generate it.

You can't wait for the feeling to show up; you have to create it. This is why you must go out and do the actions that will naturally lead to motivation, energy, and happiness. Take a walk, call a friend, go to that event—whatever it is, get into motion and watch as your energy and emotions follow. Your mindset is a power plant; it doesn't have energy, it generates it.

Principle #2: Redefine Your Goals

I don't love the word "goals" because they often come with the fear of failure. Instead, let's redefine success with three simple steps:

  1. Have a Vision: Goals can fail, but a clear vision cannot. Your vision is a picture in your mind of what you want. When you have this conscious and subconscious blueprint, you're naturally heading in that direction.

  2. Have a Plan: A plan is your roadmap to success. Just as you get up, dress up, and show up for work, having a clear plan allows you to take consistent action and move toward your vision.

  3. Plan for Obstacles: Life is a rollercoaster, not a straight line. True success comes from planning not just for the wins, but for the obstacles. When you anticipate the bumps in the road, you can enjoy the ride without fear, releasing your hands in the air and embracing life's beautiful ups and downs.

Principle #3: Reclaim Your Time

Time is our most valuable asset, and how we use it determines the quality of our lives. Here are three powerful concepts to shift your relationship with time:

  • Waiting is Wasting: The right time will never come. We're always waiting for after the holidays, after a trip, after a birthday. The best time to start is now.

  • Invest, Don't Spend: Don't say you're "taking time to exercise" or "spending time to meditate." Instead, say you are investing time in your health, your well-being, and in generating the energy you want to feel.

  • Delaying is Denying: What are you delaying in your health, your relationships, or your passions? Putting things off is a form of self-denial. Don't deny yourself the life you want.

❤️‍🔥 Final Thoughts:

Success isn't about perfectly checking off boxes; it's about actively living a life of intention. Let's make this September a month to generate our motivation, to clarify our vision, and to invest our time. When you do, you'll be able to live your life to the fullest.
