How to Stop Yourself from Quitting: About Resistance

This happens because most people plan in polarities. They either plan for total success (the "all good" days) or they plan to "fix" their problems (focusing only on the downside). What they don’t plan for is the roller coaster in between—the messy reality of Resistance.

The 2 Types of Resistance: Noise vs. Signal
Resistance isn't a sign to stop; it's a signal to decode.
- External (The Mirror): The weather, schedule shifts, or difficult people. We respond to the external with our Internal Attitude.
- Internal (The Compass): Negative emotions, "frozen" thoughts, or physical tension. This isn't just noise; it’s a signal revealing where your deepest transformational work is needed.
The 3 Phases of Resistance
In this model, habit formation and resistance exist in an inverse polarity. As your habits move up the Vortex, your relationship with resistance changes.
- Phase 1: Foundational. Resistance is at its loudest (100%). It feels dry and heavy. Most people listen to the surface noise ("I'm tired") and quit here because they believe the feeling is a fact.
- Phase 2: Momentum. Your habit is taking root. You still hear the resistance, but you've stopped trusting its excuses. You are acting in spite of the noise.
- Phase 3: Mastery (Being). Your habit is your identity. Resistance is still there—like rocks in a stream—but you no longer live into it.
Your 3-Step "Decoding" Strategy
When you hit the wall of resistance, don't freeze. Peel the "cabbage layers" of your curiosity:
- Notice (The Curiosity Key): Not Negotiable Habit #4: I am curious. Notice the physical sensation or the negative thought. Label it: "There is resistance."
- Decode (Peeling the Layers): Put on your "curiosity glasses." Ask: "What is this resistance actually trying to tell me? Is it fear? A need for safety?" Once you decode the message, the noise loses its power.
- Adjust (The 1% Shift): Life Principle #1: Self-care is non-negotiable; methods are flexible. If the environment is "frozen," don't skip the movement—change the method. Choose the action that proves you are no longer "living into" the resistance.
Stop freezing your life because of circumstances you can't control.
