Have you ever found yourself stuck in the painful habit of waiting for a "better time"—after the holidays, when you have more money, or when life is finally easy and smooth?

We are fed the lie that being "too busy" is a badge of honor. This habit of deferral is why the quotes, "Ready is the result," and "Waiting is not an option," hit so hard. We wait to feel ready, but the truth is, readiness is forged in action.

 

The "Bad Time" is Your Best Time

As we enter the holiday season, I found myself thinking about this "better time" trap. It's an easy default: "I'll start my health routine in January." * "I'll focus on self-care when things calm down."*

But that mindset is precisely why January is actually your worst time to start a new wellness routine.

Here is the great mental flip-flop we must make—it's time to put your flip-flops on and change your mind about time:

  • The easy, comfortable, smooth time is only for MAINTENANCE and FLOW.

  • The chaotic, inconvenient, busy time is for DEVELOPMENT and STRENGTHENING of systems.

If we can hold a non-negotiable habit when life is demanding, that habit is truly resilient. If we only practice when the sun is shining, our system will shatter at the first cloud.

 

The System Check-in: My Sickness Example

When life hits a roller coaster—whether it’s the holiday chaos or a sudden illness, as I experienced this past week—that is the BEST TIME to stick to your basics.

My own system check-in this week told me: Energy is low, so what is the non-negotiable? The system answered: Sleep is the most important. It's your non-negotiable; go back to bed. I prioritized sleep, silence, and mindful food choices.

This is the crucial lesson: Inconvenient time is when you learn the true power of your system. If you miss this opportunity to fall back into your basics during chaos, your routine will statistically fail (98% of people fail in the first six months) because you didn't plan for the setbacks.

 

Why Our Goals Fail (The Roller Coaster Effect)

We all know the frustration of the "Roller Coaster Failure"—making a goal only to watch it derail months later. This is not a personal failure; it's a planning failure. We fail not because we lack desire, but because we plan for convenience, not friction.

Goals fail for three core reasons when life hits a pullback:

  • Lack of a Strong Why: Friction causes us to quit.

  • Lack of Planning and Overwhelm: We try to overhaul everything at once.

  • Lack of Planning on Obstacles: We only plan for the perfect day.

 

The Immediate Solution: Non-Negotiable Habits

The only way to overcome the "Better Time" trap is to build a system of non-negotiables that function as your shield during the worst times. This is the Wellness Vortex—a system built on choices that sustain your energy, not drain it.

These are the core non-negotiable habits that form the foundation of the Wellness Vortex:

  • Sleep & Silence: Prioritize the quality of your rest and quiet moments.

  • Why & Curiosity: Maintain clarity of your purpose and be curious about your emotions and choices.

  • Movement & Nature: Move every day (formal or informal) and go outside for 10-20 minutes.

  • Mindful Eating & Time: Focus fully on your food (Fooditate), and manage yourself in the time you have.

Remember this ultimate life principle: We don't find energy, happiness, or vitality—we generate it.
