Love Yourself through Food

I eat because I love. And I am a lazy cook.

I often get asked what and how I eat.  As I sat down to journal my reflection, allow me to share with you my current meal situation.

I start prepping my meal when I am about 30% hungry.

To prep, I ask myself, how can I feed my body with love? What can I make to nourish my body?

On days I feel a lack of energy, what can I make to lift my energy?

On days I feel down, what can I eat to feel good?

When I am tired, what can I eat to relax?

I make my meal accordingly.  I cook like I would feed someone I love.

Hey, I am still on my way. I still sometimes struggle to give myself time to cook. I do not want to stand in the kitchen and cook!

So I prep.

I find the time on the weekend to pre-cook for the week. I prep the foods that may take time. On some weeks, I make brown rice, on some, red potatoes. I may even chop veggies and place them into Single serving containers. I am also not shy about buying a bulk of frozen veggies. They are fast to cook. I like them with fish. Fast, easy, and nutritious.

In the morning,

I start with water. I always have a glass by my bed side. It's recommended 20 oz of water the first thing in the morning. I do my best.

My body wakes up fast and I know that for me personally I must eat within 30-60 min upon awakening. So after water, I make my beloved pomegranate tea and banana. I sat down to journal and set intentions for the day while sipping on a tea and snacking on the banana.

Banana works for me in the morning the best. I feel natural sugar boosts my endorphins so I feel uplifted right away. Potassium boosts neuron activity so I feel clariyy and energy right away. And (my favorite 😍) because banana is soft, my jar doesn't have to work hard chewing 😅 🙃

For late morning,

which is around 11am for me, I make myself breakfast. Very often, it's already boiled (prepped on a weekend) eggs, arugula, and toast. This combination works the best for my body to keep clarity and energy going.

I get hungry again around 1pm in the afternoon.

Because I am still in working mode, I lean towards prepped foods, chopped veggies, fruit and mixed raw nuts are my favorite to-go snack. And I know I get my healthy vergies in!

What about the midday slump?

I have my gratitude tea. I sit down on my favorite relaxing spot, have my cup of green tea in my hand, and I may have something like dark chocolate handy so I can suck on it. I do eat sweets but I eat one serving with my afternoon tea and I use the sweet that I can suck on so it takes longer. I use a small folk so it helps me to take very very tiny portions. I close my eyes and prolong savoring the flavour

To engage my sense of hearing, I often turn on birds chirping YouTube video.

Ahhh, I am looking forward to this moment every day. It's the moment of happiness,  appreciation, gratitude, love. I take time to have this mini-vacation in the middle of the day.

And then evening comes,

I do my best to eat a big meal later afternoon.  It's actually around 4. Then gratitude tea. I must have tea.:) Hot 🔥

Having late afternoon big meal allows me to not need a big dinner. So I often chop some fruit and veggies for an evening snack and if I am still hungry, I can drink a protein shake. Protein shake, honestly, is my food to go: healthy, nutritious, protein, yeah. "I love you, my body ", I say every time I drink it.

And btw, I sip on water all day long.

I have water bottles everywhere. 😃  It's recommended to drink ⅓ of your body weight in ounces. Other two options to monitor your body's hydration is to not go thirsty and/or watch your pee (it has to be light color (unless you take lots of vitamin B).

And, I noticed, to sleep interrupted

I don’t drink water right before bed time so the body us not urgent to wake up to pee.

To summarize,

I prep for a week, I eat when I am at 30% hungry. I eat normally smaller portions but 5 times a day (morning snack, breakfast, 1pm snack, late afternoon dinner with gratitude tea, evening protein shake), and do by best to drink plenty of water.

For my body, the above combination of timing, variety, and amount works the best for my current life.

I notice what my body needs and do my best to feed it with love, like a child I love. Because I really do love me!
