We are a society that never lets our phones hit the "red zone," yet we consistently show up to our lives and businesses with our Human Battery at 5%. We prioritize charging our technology so we can perform, but then we use that 100% charged device to make poor decisions because we are personally depleted.

When your Human Battery is low, you donโt leadโyou react. You hunt for a dopamine hit through impulsive buying, you snap at the family members you love, and you grab for a donut instead of high-protein fuel because you are desperate for a quick spark.
The Strategic Pull-Back
Reflecting on this specific time of year, Iโve noticed a pattern: everyone is sprinting forward in a frantic January rush. But Iโve learned that the most strategic move you can do right now is to pull back. Think of your life like an arrow. In The Wellness Vortex Habit Change Model, this pull-back is Calibration. By practicing your non-negotiable habits, you are establishing your aim and building the tension required for a long-distance flight. Once you release the arrow, the Momentum of the vortex takes over.
Internal Accountability: Your Daily Charging Stations
In the Wellness Vortex, one of our core Life Principles is: Accountability is your personal responsibility. You maintain your Human Battery by hitting these specific charging stations:
* The Morning Charge (Habit #5: I choose a positive attitude): This is your first "fast charger." Before your feet even hit the floor, engage the emotional awareness of your best self. Consciously put on the experience of how you want to feel and live today.
* Mini Recharges Throughout the Day: These aren't things you "stop" for; they are habits you practice while in action:
- * Habit #4 (I am curious of my emotions/thoughts): This is your "Relax on Demand." Your brain cannot ruminate on negative stress while focusing on physical sensations. Hear the sounds around you, feel the texture of your clothes, or look someone in the eyes. This tactile focus instantly anchors you in the present.
- * Habit #14 (I focus on proper posture): Roll your shoulders back and down right now as you read this. This physical shift lowers cortisol and signals your brain that you are safe, confident, and in control.
- * The Environment Charge (Utilizing what is right in front of you): Stop waiting for external motivation. Yesterday at the National Speakers Association North Texas meeting, we were given drumsticks for high-intensity cardio. We drummed and danced for two songs, and the energy in the room shifted instantly.

Functional Fitness focuses on teaching proper body mechanics and functional movements (Squats, Lunges, Push, Pull, Bent, Twists, Gait) to build strength, balance, and confidence for daily life.
