More Self-Love, Baby! Creating Your Unconditional Self-Care System
Self-love!
Why is it so easy for us to pour love into others, yet struggle to nurture ourselves?
We carve out time for everyone else, often at our own expense. We say "yes" when our gut screams "no," and we wrestle with boundaries, feeling guilty all the while. It's a tough cycle.
Life throws curveballs, right? Sometimes, urgent situations like caring for a baby or an elderly loved one make sticking to our non-negotiables feel impossible.
But here's the thing: even when life gets chaotic, if we have a solid self-care system in place, we can still tap into it during those small pockets of time that appear.
The real challenge?
Many of us don't have a strong, successful system that works consistently. We need a system that thrives during our regular routines and can adapt with flexibility during those "hard" days.
So, how can you establish your successful self-care system?
Your Internal Non-Negotiables:
Identify what truly fuels you. Keep a list of 20 non-negotiable self-care habits. Use a habit tracker or a journal to keep them top of mind. Out of sight, out of mind, right?
The Principle of Flexibility:
Remember this life principle: Self-care is non-negotiable; methods are flexible. Flexibility means adapting in these ways:
* Time or Length/Duration: Your workout doesn't have to be an hour. Even 15 minutes counts!
* When: Can't meal prep on Sunday? Maybe Wednesday evening works, or a quick prep each morning.
* Location: Don't wait for the gym! Your body needs to move daily. Stay active wherever you are β even at home.
* What: Variety is key. On tough days, your ideal plan might not work. Be creative! Develop "menus" for different needs, like a movement menu, a healthy snack-on-the-go menu, or a relax-on-demand menu.
Self-Care vs. Self-Love:
This is a big one, and I'm still working on it too!
Don't confuse self-care with self-love.
Think of it like apples and fruit: every apple is a fruit, but not every fruit is an apple. A self-care act is an act of self-love, but self-love doesn't solely mean self-care.
You can be doing absolutely nothing and still completely love yourself.
Let's remove conditions from our self-love. We are all, without exception, worthy of love.
Learn to love yourself like you love your kids, your pets, or anyone you love unconditionally.
Want to generate unconditional self-love?
Try this:
Close your eyes.
Take a few deep breaths and think of someone you truly love.
Take time to experience that love with all your senses.
Turn up the experience of love like a stereo on the radio.
Feel it, see it, hear it. Be with that feeling.
Then, gently plant that experience of love within your own self and your body.
When you're ready, open your eyes.
Remember this feeling throughout your week.
Think of a situation where you can generate this feeling again.
Set a reminder if needed!
