The Mindset Shift That Changed Everything

It's over 100 degrees in Dallas, and the heat has me reflecting on what truly keeps our energy and vitality high. Yesterday, I was driving from a meeting when an old memory about my chiropractor came to mind, and it completely changed my perspective on wellness.
Years ago, I was diagnosed with scoliosis as a kid. And if I'm not careful, my lower back will still feel discomfort. When I asked my chiropractor if he saw any scoliosis, he said, "No." This made me wonder: how did I, someone who used to have this diagnosis, no longer have it?
When I went to him a few months ago to discuss how we could collaborate, I shared my philosophy: nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle are the pillars of what I do. And his response? It flipped my mind 180 degrees.
He said, "It's not about nutrition. It's not about fitness. It's all about mindset."
He's completely right. No amount of healthy eating or regular exercise will stick or become consistent if you don't first have a wellness mindset. I believe that’s what happened to me—somewhere along the way, I had the mindset shift that made wellness non-negotiable.
How to Build Your Wellness Mindset: The Power of Afformations
So, how do you do it? How do you upgrade your mindset from a place of "I'm too busy" or "I don't have time" to a wellness-focused one?
The key is in the things we say to ourselves. What we often don't act on is what's between our eyes. We need to commit to changing our mindset, or, more gently, upgrading our mindset.
One of the most powerful tools for this is afformations. The trick is to reframe your thoughts in a way that your brain has to believe them.

Make a Statement: Instead of saying "I will lose 40 pounds," affirm it as if it's already a part of who you are. Say, "I am the person who prioritizes greens on my plate." or "I am the person who works out three days a week." This trains your brain to believe that this is already your identity.

Ask a Question: This is my favorite method because it forces your brain to seek a solution. Instead of stating, "I am toning up," ask yourself, "Why am I toning up?" Your brain will immediately respond with, "Because I'm working out three days a week!" This reflective process solidifies the belief and creates a powerful, positive loop.
Don't Wait for Motivation. Generate It.
So many of us wait for motivation to strike. We wait for a better time, for more energy, or for the season to change. But as Brendon Burchard says, "A power plant doesn't have energy; it generates it."
You don't have to wait for motivation. You can generate it.

If you want to feel healthy, happy, and satisfied, you have to make those habits non-negotiable. We negotiate on our health and happiness every single day. Stop negotiating and start committing.
